Children under the age of 12 may be carried on board accompanied by an adult passenger, or can travel alone. There is also a possibility to obtain discounted child fare, which is regulated by the airline.
Unaccompanied children aged less than 8 pay 100% of the respective normal fare of adult passenger.
Unaccompanied children aged from 8 to 12 pay 50% of the respective normal fare of adult passenger.
Regardless of age, a separate passenger seat and free luggage allowance corresponding to free baggage allowance for adult passengers should be given to each child, the price of whose ticket is 50% of the respective normal or special fare. In case there is a need to carry a luggage which weight exceeds free baggage allowance, it shall be paid for according to the corresponding baggage fare.
To minors who follow destination for 10% of the corresponding normal or special fare, the right of free baggage allowance is not granted.
Unaccompanied infants (children 0 through 2 years old) are not allowed on board.
For a flight of a child aged under 2, without occupying a separate seat, is usually paid 10% of the respective normal fare of the adult passenger, unless there are special conditions of this fare.
A discount may be granted to the accompanying person for the flight of a child aged under 2 with separate place, if it’s allowed by conditions of applicable fare.
A passenger can get a bassinet and a cradle kit for the baby, making the appropriate request to the airline. It is also necessary to give this information to airlines employees at the check-in.
It is usually paid 50% of the respective normal or special fare of accompanying adult passenger, in case one adult passenger travels with more than one infant under 2 years old, unless there are any special conditions for applying such fare.
Each airline has its own rules for carriage of unaccompanied children. According to the general terms of p.313 of Ukrainian Civil Code (from 01.01.2004), of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 280 (from 13.04.2005) and number 231 (from 31.03.1995 and subsequent amendments), Ukrainian citizen aged under 16, has a right for a trip if :
- accompanied by both parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians);
- accompanied by one of the parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) in presence of parental travel consent from both parents (adoptive parents, guardians) for child's trip, even if one of them does not live with minor;
- in a group of children with responsible head in presence of parental travel consent for vacation or recovery;
- accompanied by an authorized person (passenger aged 18 or older) that can be responsible for the child at all stages of the trip, including change of the aircraft / flight, formalities during check-in, customs and immigration registration, etc., in presence of parental travel consent from both parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians).
Airlines accept children under their own responsibility (from 5 to 14 years old on domestic and from 5 to 16 years on international flights) exlusively on direct and transfer flights under their own code.
Conditions of child carriage under airlines responsibility:
- parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) or their legal representatives signed a statement about the unaccompanied flight of a child and completed the questionnaire, indicating detailed information about the child (name, country of birth, communication language, departure day, flight number, route, home address and phone number of responsible adult who will meet a child upon arrival). If child is under 13 years of age, filling of this form is mandatory;
- parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) or their legal representatives paid for child’s flight;
- parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) or their legal representatives promptly deliver a child to the airport for check-in and other formalities, and are staying at the airport until departure;
- parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) or their legal representatives will arrive to the airport to meet the child before aircraft’s arrival;
- transfer does not include changing of the airport;
- transfer does not include overnight at the transfer point;
- if a child, flying under the responsibility of airlines, will not be met at the destination point upon arrival, or data of the responsible adult will not coincide with given data, parents (adoptive parents, legal guardians) or their legal representatives will pay for the return flight.
